About

Welcome to Yarn Town!

This is the first rendition of my daydream to one day open a yarn and fabric shop that is devoted to sharing the skills and passion for the fiber arts.

The short version: My name is Emily and I love teaching people how to knit and supporting them in their creative journey to do what they might once thought was unattainable. I am in the beginning stages of figuring out how to build a space for fiber people in southeast West Virginia to learn, share, connect, and purchase sustainable materials to create their projects together.

What I’ve come to know in my 20 years as a knitter, is that making something is therapeutic. Getting your hands into a project and using your mind for something other than ruminations is a healing and radical act. Choosing to make something so unique to you truly is magic, whether it’s a gift, for yourself, or for a community art project is such a powerful act in our world that seems to be becoming more and more about sameness.

Whether you believe making is a magical art or if it’s just a means to an end to keep your favorite sweater in rotation after a hole starts, I’m happy you’re here.
